How it all works

Step 1: FREE 1-hour consultation*

We send our designer to your home to discuss your project. We figure out what you will need to prepare your yard, what types of plants and maintenance
level you are looking for, and what your budget constraints may be.

*with purchase of a landscape design plan and/or installation. If no further work is required the consultation fee is $75/hour.

Step 2: Developing a Design Plan and Quotes

After meeting with you our designer will figure out the details of the necessary components discussed at the consultation to make your garden dream a reality. Sometimes this involves more visits to your home with our labor specialists. These visits are included in your free consultation.

Once this information has been gathered we can provide you with a rough estimate of your total project costs. We will also provide you with various
options in cost when possible.

For more information on the specific types of decisions that are associated with typical landscaping projects please see below, section 2A.

Step 3: Plant Palette

Our designer will devise a plant list based on the specific needs of your home, which include water schemes, aspect, slope, and your tastes and
preferences. This plant palette will be discussed with you to ensure that you will just love what is installed in your garden.

We can also provide for clients who desire it detailed renditions of the landscape plan. Please see our examples in our Design Gallery.

The Details

Step 2A - Developing a plan and what is needed for your yard

What types of decisions need to be made when looking to plant a native or drought tolerant garden?

Lawn removal - It is not necessary, but sometimes recommended. Grass is thirsty, needs to be mowed, and sometimes fertilized. While it can be desirable
to keep some green patches of grass for kids, pets, etc, we try to find a balance between nature and manicured lawns.

Tree and shrub removal - Lets face it, not everyone loves what is in their backyard! We are happy to discuss removal of some or all of your existing shrubs and trees. We work with a certified arborist for large scale removals.

French drains, watch catchments and rain barrels - We contract to an engineer who really knows his stuff. French drains and water drains can make the most of the water rushing off your roof during the rainy season, while catchments and rain barrels can store the excess, allowing you to use as necessary.

Stones and rockeries - Lizards love rocks, and lizards eat garden pests. Rocks and rockeries are a great way to add visual diversity to your landscape as well as encourage natural pest-eliminators to your garden! We can reuse rocks you currently have or bring in specialty ones.

Mulch - Bark mulch and woodchips are a fantastic way to keep moisture and nutrients in the soil while still allowing plants to spread. We highly encourage the use of mulch in all our our landscaping projects.

Garden walls and retaining walls - Hardscaping is an important part of making a project complete. In many cases our clients have existing hardscape that they would like to add to or change. We are fully capable of meeting all your needs in this regard.

Walkways and stepping stones - Being able to access your garden hose, elderberries, and flowers to cut and put in vases is important. We can provide you with
small foot paths, stepping stones, and/or walkways as part of the comprehensive design.

Irrigation - Whether it is changing an existing system, turning off pipes and sprinkler heads, or adding a system for the really dry times of year, we can do it just right for you needs.

Weed cloth - While weed cloth is not necessary in most of our projects, in can come in handy when extensive sections of grass have been removed and/or excess water (and thus weeds and grass) will be an issue. We are happy to lay down either recycled plastic weed cloth or biodegradable weed screen for you.
